Rifampin, an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis and other serious infections, is well known for speeding up the liver’s ability to break down many drugs. This can lower the levels of seizure medications, birth control pills, blood thinners, and other important drugs in your body.

Supplements and Over-the-Counter Products
Many people do not realize that vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements can also interact with antibiotics. St. John’s Wort, a popular herbal supplement, can reduce the effectiveness of certain medications by speeding up how the liver processes them.
